MSM patent information states that the restorative properties of topical MSM lotions have been found to be effective in eliminating external scars (stretch marks, burns or surgical incisions, etc.) while internal scaring responds to oral MSM. Researchers report that they believe MSM works by softening the scar tissue, thereby causing the damaged tissue to diminish in size or to disappear altogether. MSM lotion can be applied several times each day, but be careful to choose one with as few artificial ingredients as possible (additives can cause rashes or side effects, diminishing the effectiveness of the MSM).
    External Applications of MSM

    • Acne

    • Bruises

    • Skin Problems (eczema, psoriasis, etc.)

    • Carpal-Tunnel Syndrome

    • Varicose Veins

    • Tendonitis, Bursitis, Joint Pain

    • Muscle pain (cramps, soreness, etc.)

Research has shown that MSM is remarkably effective in treating parasitic infections both on the skin and internally. Fungal conditions on the skin respond well to topical applications of MSM lotion.

Scleroderma is a possibly fatal tightening of the skin, usually occurring in older persons. If severe, it causes the skin to shrink dramatically and tighten like a vise around the organs.

In experiments with MSM, Herschler discovered that topical MSM lotion significantly softened the skin, making it more elastic. Dr. Jacob conducted research studies with sceleroderma patients and confirmed the topical MSM applications did provide substantial relief.

When asked he confirmed that MSM, which generally contains about 15% MSM, can be used daily, even several times a day, without side effects.

MSM is known to have an inhibitory effect on cross-linking of collagen and protein which reduces the hardening of skin and connective tissues. This property makes MSM an extraordinary treatment for improving the quality of the skin, hair, and nails. MSM lotions can be applied directly to the skin for treating problems such as acne, burns, topical fungus or dry, aged, wrinkled skin. Apply liberally to the skin and rub gently into the affected area.

MSM is a form of organic sulfur. Sulfur is needed by all living organisms and is present in many forms including fruits, vegtables, milk, and grains. Since dietary sulfur is destroyed by cooking many individuals may not receive sufficient dietary sulfur. This mineral plays an important role in numerous biochemical processes and structures. It has been known to reduce chronic inflamation and pain of arthritis, bursitis and tendonitis. Other benefits include reduced symptoms of tension, migrane headaches, capral tunnel syndrome, fibromyalgia, and recurrent cramps. The benefits of MSM are enhansed by Vitamin C supplementation.

I have been told that Mother Nature made our bodies so that they make new cells every day of our lives. It is very important that our glands put out the right enzymes and hormones to regulate and keep our bodies healthy. Without the proper amount of sulphur or MSM in our system, we cannot produce good, healthy cells.

We can get this essential nutritional sulphur from some of our foods: milk and a variety of fruits, vegetables, and grains in small amounts. But we lose most of this absolutely important mineral by heating, drying, and processing our food.

When our system is deficient in MSM, our bodies cannot make enough good cells to overcome the effects of the bad cells. We then are subject to various illnesses, aches, pains, and allergies until we correct the problem with good healthy cells.

The Body Wants To Heal Itself, If It Can Get The Proper Nourishment.

We All Need a Little Extra MSM Each Day, For Good Health! The Body Uses Up 1/8 Teaspoon of MSM Each Day.

    MSM (Methylsulphonylmethane)

    • Proteins contain sulphur, but carbohydrates and fats do not.

    • Sulphur is found in the amino acids methionine, cyctine, and cycteine which are building blocks of protein.

    • Methionine is the scarcest of the amino acids. Its sulphur content makes it important for skin and nail growth, fat reduction into the body and liver. It also helps prevent fatigue and depression.

    • Cystine is bioconverted methionine and serves as an antioxidant. Methionine increases production of enzymes, which in turn increases the amount of memory enhancing neurotransmitters, such as DOPAMINE, and mood elevating polypeptide molecules called ENDORPHINS.

    • Sulphur synthesizes and activates the B vitamins, thiamin, vitamin C, biotin, and pantothenic acid. These are necessary for metabolism and healthy nerves.

    • Sulphur helps tissues breathe. This process builds cells and releases energy.

    • Perhaps the most vital role of sulphur is in carbohydrate metabolism, which is especially crucial for diabetics and hypoglycemics. Sulphur is a signicant component of insulin—the protein hormone secreted by the pancreas.

    • MSM helps keep the skin, hair, and nails healthy, and merits accolades as “Natures Beauty Mineral.” Adding sulphur to the diet will give one faster growing, thicker hair and nails.

Since 1983, MSM is recognized both as a food and food supplement for human consumption and its utility for such purposes has extensively been established. Both small children and adults, including geriatrics, gain a more benecial balanced diet when MSM (Methylsulphonylmethane) levels match natural, unprocessed foods.

MSM is a naturally occurring constituant found in most natural, unprocessed and unstored foods, consumed by man and other animals. While it was known for several decades that MSM was a normal constituent of the body, there was no recognition of the importance of its role in nutrition and good health.

With today’s modern diet of cooked and otherwise processed and diluted foods, most—if not all—diets of civilized man are decient in this critically important nutrient.

Researchers suggest body concentrations of MSM that are too low may result in:

    • Adverse physical and psychological stress

    • Tissue and organ malfunction

    • Fatigue and increased susceptibility to disease

MSM: The Missing link to Optimal Health

MSM, or Methylsulphonylmethane, is a naturally occurring sulphur compound with multiple functions in the body. It is the fourth most needed element, next to oxygen, water, and salt, in human and animal nutrition. The development of MSM as a dietary supplement stemmed from research on DMSO.

MSM is a metabolite of DMSO that is the DMSO molecule with an additional oxygen atom. MSM is present in body uids and tissues and is found in milk and a variety of fruits, vegetables, and grains in small amounts. But we lose most of this absolutely important mineral by heating, drying, and processing our food. In addition, MSM has been found in primitive plants such as Equisetum arvense and in the adrenal cortex of cattle. Sulphur is involved in nearly every metabolic process in the body, and it is essential in the regeneration and nourishment of healthy cells. MSM is part of the Amino Acid Chain. Without the presence of the proper amount of MSM in our body, the Amino Acids will continue to build the glands, but there is a failure to produce the correct enzymes, so we are then prone to unnecessary illness.

MSM is the exible bond between proteins. When a cell dies, a new cell takes its place. But, without the needed amount of MSM, it attaches but becomes rigid. When tissues lose their exibility, problems develop with the lungs and other parts of the body. MSM is marked by its non-toxic nature. It can never hurt anyone. It has proven useful as a dietary supplement for both children and adults, including geriatric patients. At low levels of ingestion, it functions as a normal dietary ingredient and assimilable source of essential dietary sulphur. At higher levels it works as a pharmaceutically active agent which can be used safely and effectively in response to gastrointestinal upset, inamation of the mucous membranes, pain associated with musculoskeletal system disorders, and infectant allergens.

    Why supplement the diet?

MSM and many precursor compounds which are readily converted to MSM in the body, are found in most natural, un-processed foods. However, because of its volatility, it is readily lost when fresh food is processed and/or stored. Unless the diet consists largely of raw, unprocessed foods, it is unlikely that sufcient MSM will be ingested to contribute signicantly to the daily nutritional requirements, thus furthering the high incidence of sulphur decient diets which exist globally.

Although MSM has not yet been established to be a vitamin, it does have a vitamin like moderating or normalizing activity for various body functions, as there appears to be a high correlation between abnormal physiological symptoms and low MSM blood levels in human beings. Also, excretion data shows that MSM occurs in lower concentrations with increasing age. Too low a body concentration of MSM may potentially result in adverse physical and psychological stress, tissue and organ malfunction, fatigue, and increased susceptibility to disease. MSM is essential, but why?

Sulphur plays an indispensable role in human nutrition which is often overlooked. It is responsible for the conformation of body proteins through the formation of disulde bonds, thereby holding connective tissue together. Sulphydril groups are vital for the catalytic function of several body enzymes. To perform these roles, constant intake of assimilable sulphur is needed by the body.

MSM is the transport molecule for elemental sulphur which is required for proper assimilation of the amino acids metionine and cysteine. In addition, the peptide hormone insulin requires sulphur in its molecular structure and numerous other proteins, catalysts, and enzymes incorporate sulphur into their molecular framework.

Proteins are essential for proper cellular metabolism and soft tissue synthesis. Proper protein synthesis can only be achieved with amino acid monomers which maintain the correct molecular framework for soft and connective tissue throughout the human body. Because protein is the main ingredient in most soft tissue, benecial effects from regular usage of MSM has been reported for alleviating arthritis, improved exibility, smoother skin, healthier hair and nails, faster and better healing from surgical procedures or wounds.

What benets can one expect from using MSM?

Clinically, MSM has been found useful in the relief of symptoms associated with the following conditions:

Being a free radical and foreign protein scavenger, MSM has a broad and profound benecial effect in relieving allergic responses. Subjects nd a direct correlation between concentration of MSM used and the ability to detoxify the blood and cells, as well as increasing overall oxygenation. Those with chronic to severe allergies to environmental materials such as house dust (mites), pollen, wool, animal hair, feathers, and other allergens report substantial to complete relief of their symptoms. lndividuals, allergic to certain drugs or foods, report either a lessened intolerance or a complete tolerance to the substance.

    Gastrointestinal Upset:

Those with symptoms, produced by the ingestion of food, drugs or by parasitic infections (including Candida), such as diarrhea, chronic constipation, nausea, and hyper-acidity have experienced dramatic relief. Creating an internal environment unfriendly to many types of parasites, MSM maintains intestinal pH on the necessary level, com-bating Candida. In addition, MSM helps the liver to produce vitamin B4, as well as to normalize stomach functions and to prevent ulcer development. The role of MSM was noted in insulin production which is important for adrenal and pancreatic functioning, as well as for carbohydrate metabolism. Finally, MSM has the ability to improve lung function and regenerate damaged lung tissue.

    Musculoskeletal Disorders:

Individuals with symptoms of pain and inammation associated with various disorders reported substantial and long lasting relief. Arthritic patients report relief from pain and stiffness as well as reduced swelling and inammation. Their pain comes from the soft tissue. Aspirin shuts off the nerves, but the muscles are still damaged. MSM takes out the inammation, permits the muscles to heal, and prevents them from becoming sore. MSM is capable of reducing the incidence of, or entirely eliminating leg and back cramps, muscle spasms, and general soreness, particularly in geriatric patients who experience cramps at night or after long periods of inactivity. Athletes, bodybuilders, and marathon runners report that MSM, taken before and after exercise, nearly eliminates cramps and muscle soreness and cuts recovery time markedly.

If you play baseball and you normally get sore muscles the next day, take 1/2 teaspoon of MSM before playing the game and you will notice a difference. If taken after the game, the soreness will go away faster. It is necessary to emphasize that MSM stimulates immune function of our body.

    Dosage & administration considerations

The effective dosage depends to some extent on the nature and severity of symptoms manifested, the cause of those symptoms, and the MSM blood level of the patient prior to administration. A single dose of MSM is usually not effective in ameliorating symptoms. If you overdose, the extra MSM becomes inert and just passes through your system. MSM is usually administered periodically through the day or on successive days, or both.

Noticeable results are generally seen within 2 to 21 days. The amount of MSM in each dose is not critical. The usual individual dose is about 1000 to 5000 mg twice daily, morning and late afternoon.

Puried MSM can be admini-stered orally in any convenient manner. Preferably, MSM is given in unit dosage form such as tablets or capsules, each containing 500 to 1000 mg MSM. An equal amount of vitamin C and bioavonoids taken for it’s synergistic effect appears to enhance the benets of MSM.

Starting on MSM, some users notice signs of an initial detoxication. These include headache, loose stool, and fatigue, lasting 1 to 3 days, the uncomfortable but welcome signs of cellular cleansing. To reduce symptoms associated with an initial detoxication, start with low dosage of MSM (500 mg) twice daily.

Individuals with gastrointestinal symptoms such as diarrhea, chronic constipation, nausea, hyperacidity or inammation of mucous membranes, experience dramatic relief through the oral administration of 2000-5000 mg of MSM daily.

Individuals presenting signs and symptoms of pain and inammation associated with various musculoskeletal system disorders reported substantial relief while including from 2000 to 5000 mg of MSM in their daily diet. Individuals who manifest an allergic response to drugs, such as aspirin, non-steroidal antiarthritic agents (Indocin, Motrin) and oral antibiotics, as well as those who are mildly to severely allergic to various foods, such as cereals, shrimp and other seafood, milk, etc., report either a lessened intolerance or a complete tolerance to these substances when ingesting 2000 to 5000 mg of MSM concurrently.

MSM is of exceedingly low toxicity to all forms of plant and animal life. Except for the benecial inhibitory effect on cross linking of collagen and proteins, whereby it reduces hardening of skin and connective tissue, MSM appears to be inert in tissues and body uids. It can also be employed as a stable, neutral vehicle for pharmaceutical substances to deliver the pharmaceutical while simultaneously improving the condition of the patient’s connective tissue. We do not recommend MSM be taken during pregnancy or by lactating mothers.

    My experience with MSM

When I started using MSM, I lived with chronic back pain and in dread of disabling spasms in my middle back. My fourth day on MSM I awoke to a pain free body. What a high! Along with the pain went the years of long fatigue, hay fever, and herpes outbreaks. I felt like twenty years had been erased from my physiology. I was energetic, and relaxed in my body. For me, MSM, along with vitamin C, is the ultimate revitalizing supplement.
